Vianca Batten

Vianca Batten is a contemporary artist based in Wellington, New Zealand. With a focus on portraits and self-portraiture, their work explores the false stereotypes of Filipina women that have been influenced by film, media, advertisement and colonisation. She received a BFA with Honours from Toi Rauwhārangi College of Creative Arts and has exhibited in Meanwhile Gallery.
Batten's work has been influenced by her Filipino heritage and it's dark underbelly. Through her art, she seeks to empower all women, especially Filipina women, as well as to reclaim perceptions of women's bodies.
